Our baby is almost six months old! That is a cause for celebration and for crying! It is so sad that they grow up so fast. Jack is such a joy to be around right now. He is almost always happy, smiley and thrilled to see you. He is just on the cusp of sitting up by himself. Sometimes he can for a minute or so, while fixated on his feet, but he hasn't perfected it yet. I am guessing he will this week!
Jack is perfectly in size three diapers and I am going to get out the cloth diapers soon. They only fit Jace from about 9 months until 18 months, so that is what I am guessing with Jack. Jack is quite a bit skinnier than Jace, though.
The baby is still mostly on formula, but eats rice cereal 1-2 times a day. He does pretty well with the cereal and seems to like it. Probably next week we will start him on a vegetable. He still drinks a lot. I would guess close to a quart a day.
Jack can roll all over the place and is constantly getting stuck under furniture or rolling onto his brother's toys. He is enamored with Jace and wants to get to him, to watch him, to play with him all the time. The feeling is mutual. Jace does an excellent job of "taking care of" his little brother. He is gentle and shows him all of his toys and tries to get Jack to interact. He is very patient.
We don't have any concerns for Jack, so we imagine his appointment for his six month check up will be uneventful. His motor skills are so good. He can pick up anything and pull it to his mouth. We gave him a teething biscuit and he loved gnawing on that. He doesn't have any teeth yet, but I am sure that top right (my right, his left) will be in any day. I like his toothless grin so I am not in any hurry. ;)
Last night Jack pooped in the tub for the first time. Jace was in there with him, and when I picked up the baby, Jace said "Oh, no, Jack pooped!" and sure enough there was poop all over. What a mess! Jace took it in stride, though, and stayed in the bath after I removed the baby tub.
The whole family enjoyed a vacation last month and a trip to Des Moines last weekend to visit Eric, Britnee and Charlee. Jack and Jace had a good time with Grandma, Aunt Britnee and Charlee while the rest of us went to the Nationwide Race. It was difficult for the two kids in a hotel room, but overall they did okay. We won't probably try that again until the boys can share a bed, though!
Next weekend we have six month pictures. I can't wait for those!
