Ten/Eleven week checkup

This week I visited with Carole (the nurse practitioner) to discuss Baby K. It was a pretty uneventful appointment, but it was a good one. I was SO thrilled to hear Baby K's heartbeat thumping away at 169 beats per minute. The old wive's tale says that this means it is a girl (over 140 bpm is a girl, under 140 is a boy). Of course, we know that is not true because Jace's was nearly always over 140 bpm.

I was 11 weeks this week, but according to my first ultrasound, Carole said that I was closer to 10, so who knows? They will not change our due date unless there is over 7 days discrepancy, though, so 2-22-12 is still the magic date.

I will have to do my one hour glucose test for gestational diabetes next time. I am not really looking forward to it, but I know what is coming so I might as well get it out of the way.

I also told my coworkers that I was expecting this week, and they were very supportive. However, the general tone for a second child is not as "excited" as the first child. Many people (not just coworkers) ask "Was this planned?", which I find a little strange. I have probably asked many people the same thing, though!

Yes, Baby K was very planned and we are very thrilled to have a new addition to the family. I would say, a fourth member, but really there are so many furry babies running around our house that it seems like there are definitely more than three of us! That is how we like it, and Jace loves it, so we are sure Baby K will, too!
